Róbert Karul

Senior research fellow at the Institute of Philosophy at the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava. He focuses on the problems of visuality, imagination and representation in contemporary art; his research area is French phenomenology, and he explores the phenomena of limit (for example, Levinas’ there is, Marion’s saturated phenomenon, and Michel Henry’s experience of self). He is particularly interested in the possibility of reanimating Neoplatonism in terms of the methodology and the terminology of contemporary phenomenology. He has been a part of several research projects in Slovakia and in the Central European context as well as participated in the organization of Bratislava Philosophical Days and French summer school (Jan Hus foundation). He teaches contemporary aesthetics at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava.
